Cultural Dance & Bush Tucker Workshop

5 March 2024, Research House, 1 College Rd, UTAS, Sandy Bay, 3.30pm – 5.30pm

Nita Education

Nita Education will run the Cultural Dance lesson and the Bush Tucker at Reconciliation Tasmania’s offices, Research House in Sandy Bay. NITA Education provides Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural experiences to schools and businesses across lutruwita / Tasmania. They inspire connection to the 50,000+ year old culture of First Nations people and encourage young palawa/pakana to embrace their culture.

Bush Tucker Walk

Explore the University Reserve next to Research House and learn about an array of bush tucker plants. For more than 50,000 years, the palawa people managed and cared for this unique island. The knowledge has continuously been passed down and Nita Education are proud to share this with Youth Mob members.

Cultural Dance

Nita are holding this special dance class for Youth Mob. You will be exposed to some traditional dance styles that have been brought into the contemporary cultural context.

Wear comfortable, layered clothes for dancing and walking in.

Non-Aboriginal people are welcome if they are supporting a young First Nations person. Note that 14-24 year-olds who identify as First Nations will be given preference.
